PZL P 24 F
PZL P 24 - the best Polish fighter plane mass-produced under the management of Wsiewolod Jakimiuk.
This plane was a modified version of fighter P11 adapted to building in the engine about 1000 hp. The first prototype with engine Gnome - Rhone 14 Kds cast in February 1933. In June 1934 Boleslaw Orlinski set up the world speed record on the second prototype for the fighter planes with radial engines reaching the speed 414 km/h.
In 1936 Turkey sent the - first order. P 24 was soon bought by Bulgaria, Greece and Romania the latter bought also the licence. In 1937 a new version of P 24 was worked out. The new plane had the engine GR 14N-07, the power of 713 kW, the fuel supply and the cooling system were changed. The new engine cover was introduced and the cockpit was shielded. Greece was the first to buy new planes: 25 P 24F planes armed with 2 cannons and 2 machine guns as well as 6 P 24G planes armed with 4 machine guns. All these planes weredscon changed into 4 machine guns. After October 23 1940 when Italy attacked Greece P 24 constituted the armament 3 MIRE DIOXEOS no 21,22,23 which were fighting in the city aera of Saloniki, Kazani and Larisa. P 24 fought above Greece till April 23 1941. Then, they were sent to Kreta and Egipt. A few conguered P 24 planes were used by the Italian Regia Aeronautica. Apart from Greece, Romania also used in fighting against the USSR in 1941. No P 24 fighter was used in fighting in Poland in 1939.
